We recently asked our Facebook fans how they respond to that tired comment from strangers: “You have your hands full.” We got some great responses!
A group of moms put me to shame for reading this comment in a negative light. After all, it’s true. My hands, my life and my heart are crazy full! Here are some of their responses.
- We sure do. I know whomever is not trying to be mean. They see a mom with a 23-month-old and two 4-month-olds.
- Yes I do. It’s usually a true statement.
- Yep!
- Yes, I do. Wanna help?
I wasn’t the only one, though, who wanted a quick comeback in hand.
- And so is my heart. I also say “better me than you” before they can say the opposite.
- Yes, and I am never letting go.
- Better full than empty.
- And that’s how I like it!
- I love the chaos. Because I do.
Do you have a favourite from the responses above? What’s your canned responses to “You have your hands full!”
We tend to say “I know! Isn’t it wonderful?!” or, “We are SO blessed!”…and move on!
We tend to draw quite a few annoying comments because ours are adopted and not biologically related…so, you have my blonde haired blue eyed daughter 20 months…and my dark haired dark eyed boyo(2 years now)…and folks are trying to figure out how that happened. They often forget that line between “polite curiosity” and “not so very polite” curiosity! =) But, we try to remain gracious!
Love, love saying “better me than you” and think I’ll start using the “better full than empty” one.
I always wonder why people feel compelled to comment snidely or to be inconsiderate. Maybe it’s because they wished the blessing were passed their direction?? IDK, I know my patience tends to run really short with ignorance…
I look forward to the day when people will just keep it moving. 😉
